Platinum & Partners is working with a top-tier systematic hedge fund in New York to hire a Quantitative Developer to join a small, high-performing trading technology team. This is a hands-on engineering role — not a research or modelling seat.
The firm wants a sharp, pragmatic developer who has worked in a lean environment, knows what it means to support live traders, and can move quickly across multiple projects without losing quality. If you thrive in a small team, take pride in clean, fast code, and want to work directly alongside traders rather than behind layers of process — this is the role.
One important note: this firm is explicitly not looking for PhD or MFE candidates. Strong engineering instincts and real trading environment experience will outperform academic credentials here every time.
THE ROLE
- Build, maintain and improve the tools and systems that traders use daily — live support is a core part of the job, not an afterthought
- Work across a broad range of projects simultaneously in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift and speed matters
- Collaborate directly with traders and researchers to understand what they need and deliver it quickly
- Contribute to and improve the firm's core tech stack across data pipelines, execution tooling and analytics
- Operate as a generalist developer who can move between Python, front-end tooling and systems-level work as needed
WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR
- Proven software engineering experience in a finance or trading environment — this is not a role for someone straight out of academia or a first job
- Strong preference for candidates who have worked on a small team — a startup, a new trading pod, or a lean engineering team where you owned a lot and moved fast
- Very strong Python — this is non-negotiable and the primary lens through which your application will be assessed
- Comfort with Linux environments
- Familiarity with any of the following is a meaningful plus, in roughly this order of priority: JavaScript / React, Airflow / Redis, C++ / Rust
- Comfortable working at pace, juggling multiple projects and pivoting quickly — this is not a slow-moving environment
- Trader-facing experience: you are not uncomfortable picking up the phone when something breaks in production
- A pragmatic, engineering-first mindset: you write code that works, ships quickly and can be maintained
